The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because of the color. I originally ordered the black without the “distressed” look directly from Frye. I sent them back because they were too shiny... I wanted a more matte look. So I ordered these from Amazon. Frye was out of my size in this color. They are beautiful boots and I loved them immediately, but they are brown and not black. They go with almost everything, but when I wear all black, it’s obvious these are more brown.Other than that, these are very high quality. I did have to use a hair dryer to get them zipped, but with a few hours of wear, they zip every time now. My calf is almost 17” and these fit with a little stretch. I don’t wear jeans, but if I did, they would most definitely need to be professionally stretched. There are old fashioned cobblers out there that will stretch the calf of the boot for about $30 per boot. Since these are all leather and very well made I think that would be a good option if you needed a littler more room in the calf.These were just as the picture showed--distressed and almost brown instead of a dark black. I knew that before I ordered so I'm okay with it. My only complaint is that one of the harness snaps is hard to close and doesn't feel very secure, but I didn't have any problems the one time I wore them. Also, they weren't packaged in the usual Frye box with logo paper, etc., (which could be a cost-cutting measure for clearance-priced shoes/boots), but otherwise they appeared authentic in the way they were constructed. I usually order either 6 1/2 or 7; these were 6 1/2 and fit perfectly and were comfortable all day.I was a little surprised that the boots have a rough finish to the leather, but the look goes well with the style of the boot. The harness look on the boot is attractive, but simple. I ordered boots a half size bigger than my shoe size and that turned out well; they are extremely comfortable and look great with jeans. The length of the boot shaft is good, the shaft hugs your calf and looks sleek. The zippers extend down the boot to the side of your foot , making it easy to get the boot on as well as getting the boot off. There is a slight heel which looks nice, but doesn't feel as if it affects one's balance. These are definitely not dressy boots, but look great as casual wear. I love them!These are exactly as I'd expect from a Frye boot. Beautiful, fits well. (a little bigger, but not too bad). I only gave 4 stars because the soles were SO slippery. I had to use a Dremel to rough them up a bit. But, it helped, and they're great boots.Great boot, high quality, comfortable, and love the look. The boot has a faint “warehouse”? Smell, but that’ll hopefully fade. Fits true to size. Took me a long time to find a boot like this. Very happy With the boots!Based on other reviews I ordered a half a size up and this was perfect. Normally I am a seven I ordered the 7 1/2 and it fits wonderfully. They are absolutely gorgeous. Color says black but they are more of a brown. They are distressed and I love it. No problems with the zipper. Solid heal. Exactly what I would expect from Frye. They are extremely comfortable and I have not taken them off since they arrived. LOL. The height comes up to my knee. And I am 5’2”. I am 100% pleased with my purchase worth every penny.My wife gets a pair every year for her birthday and Christmas and this pair was as good quality as all the others. My biggest problem is that we are running out of different styles but that’s my fault for buying her so many.These boots are gorgeous and have a comfortable footbed. However, I purchased the extended calf and they are STILL snug. I won't be able to wear anything except form-fitting pants. Also, the zipper sometimes gets stuck near the bottom and it's inconvenient to undo the harness each time I put them on.
